Guru Ji advises man to get his priorities right. Life is flowing away, quickly take to Naam.
Sikh history tells us that Guru Harkrishan Ji, Joti Jote on 30th March 1664 at Delhi. Upon inquiry from the Sikhs about the next Guru, Guru Harkrishan Ji had said “Baba Bekale,” indicating that the ninth Guru Sahib Ji was at village Baba Bakala. 22 pakhandi babas promptly set up shop there, each claiming to be the 9th Guru Sahib Ji.
Baba Makhan Shah Lubhana excitedly told everyone “Guru ladho re,” and related his experience upon meeting Tegh Bahadur Ji (not Guru yet at that time).
Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji was proclaimed as the 9th Guru of the Sikhs in October 1664.
Sometime in November 1664, Guru Ji and a few Sikhs went to Harmandar Sahib. Darbar Sahib was under the control of Harji, related to Prithi Chand. The gates of Harmandar were locked and Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji was denied entry.
Guru Ji and the Sikhs went to a spot near Akal Takht known as Thara Sahib (pillar of patience) and sat under a tree. There, Guru Ji calmly recited this Shabad.
Sing the Praises of the Lord, O my mind. He is your True Companion; your life is passing away. Accept what I am saying.
“Har jas re manna gaye leh jo sangi hai tero; aussar bitiyo jaat hai kehyo maan leh mero.” (rahao).
You are so engrossed with property, chariots, wealth and power; when the noose of death tightens around your neck, all these will belong to others.
“Sampatt rath dhan raaj seyo att neho lagaieyo; kaal faas jab galh pari sabh bheyo paraieyo.”
O madman you knew well the consequences, yet you ruined your affairs; you did not restrain yourself from committing sins, nor did you eradicate your ego.
“Jaan bujh ke bawre teh kaaj bigariyo; paap karat sokchiyo nahi neh garab niwareiyo.”
Listen to the Teachings imparted by the Guru; Nanak proclaims this aloud – hold tight to the Lord’s Sanctuary.
“Jeh bidh Gur updesiya so sunn re bhai; Nanak kahat pukar keh gaho Prabh Sharnayi.”
