Raag Dhanaasree (Dhanasree) M.5.

Guru Ji tells us about man’s confused perception. He does not understand the Reality of things and runs after useless things.

Guru Ji says the straw (wealth) you have collected; you shall have to leave it behind; the numerous entanglements (petty fights, grudges, hates, fetishes, law suits, arguments), shall be of no use to you.

“Chodh jaye se kare praal; kaam na aave se janjaal.”

You love things which will not go along with you; your enemies you regard as friends.

“Sang na chaley tin sio heet; jo berraiye seyi meet.”

In such confusion, the world has gone astray; the foolish mortal wastes this precious human life.

“Aisey bharam bhuley sansaraa; janam padarath khoye gavaraa.” (rahao).

He does not appreciate Truth and Righteousness; he is attached to falsehood and deception; they seem sweet to him.

“Sach Dharam nahi bhave ditha; jhuth dhoh seyo rachiyo mitha.”

He loves the gifts but forgets the Giver; the wretched one does not even remember death.

“Daat pyari visreya Dataraa; jaane nahi maran vicharaa.”

He cries for the possessions of others; he forfeits all the merits of his good deeds and religion.

“Vastt prayee ko uth rovay; karam dharam saglaa ee khovay.”

He does not realize the Lord’s Hukam. Thus continues his coming and going in reincarnation; he commits sins and regrets.

“Hukam na bujjay aavan jaaney; paap kare ta pachotaney.”

After such a graphic look at man’s follies, Guru Ji tells us what we should do.

Firstly, learn to accept His Will; accept His Will as sweet.

“Jo Tudh bhave so parvaan; Tere bhaney no kurbaan.”

Do ardas and prayer to God in utter humility. Poor Nanak is Your slave, Your humble servant; save me my Lord and Master.

“Nanak gareeb banda jan Tera; rakh leh Sahib Prabh mera.”
