A jeev isteri pines for her Beloved. There was a time when she was with Him, but being separated for many lives, she now yearns for Union.
She talks to herself.

I am terrified. In ten directions, the clouds cover the sky like a canopy, and lightning flashes; my bed is empty and my eyes have no sleep. Alas, my Husband has gone far away.

“Deh diss chatar megh ghata ghat damann chamak daraiyho; sej ekeli neend neh nainho Pir pardes sidhaeiyo.”

Now I receive no messages from Him mother; earlier (when He was with me), when He would go even a mile away, He would send me four letters (I used to get Divine knowledge of all four ages).

“Hun nahi sandesro maiieyo; ek kosro sidh karat Laal tab chatur patro aayo.” (rahao).

How could I ever forget this Dear Beloved of mine? He is the Giver of Peace, and all
Virtues; as I rise to His Mansion, and gaze upon His Path (Hukam), my eyes are filled with tears.

“Kyo bisray eh Laal Pyaro Sarab Gunna Sukhdaieyo; Mandar charh ke Panth niharo nain neer bhar aaiyo.”

As she rises higher in avastha, she says there is a wall of egotism and pride between, which separates me, but I can hear He is nearby; the veil of separation, although subtle like the wings of a butterfly, does not allow me to see Him, and He seems far away.

Hao hao bheet bheyo hai beecho sunatt desh nikataieyo; bhambiree ke paat pardho bin pekhay duraaiyo.”

In the 4th pada, she exclaims she has received His Grace.

The Lord and Master of all is Merciful; He has dispelled all my sufferings; Nanak says, when the Guru tore down the wall of egotism, then I saw my Merciful Lord and Master; all my fears have been dispelled O mother; whatever I wanted, the Guru has led me there; the Lord King is the Treasure of all Virtues.

“Bheyo kirpal sarab ko Thakur sagro dukh mitaieyo; kaho Nanak haumai bheet Gur khoyee tao Dyaar Bithlo paayo; sabh rehyo andesro maiyo; jo chahaat so Guru milaeiyo; sarab Gunna Nidh Raiyo.” (rahao dujja).

ਰਾਗੁ ਸੋਰਠਿ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥
Sorat’h, Fifth Mehla:

ਦਹ ਦਿਸ ਛਤ੍ਰ ਮੇਘ ਘਟਾ ਘਟ ਦਾਮਨਿ ਚਮਕਿ ਡਰਾਇਓ ॥
:—(ਜਦੋਂ) ਬੱਦਲਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਘਟਾਂ ਹੀ ਘਟਾਂ ਛਤਰੀ ਵਾਂਗ ਦਸੀਂ ਪਾਸੀਂ (ਪਸਰੀਆਂ ਹੁੰਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ), ਬਿਜਲੀ ਚਮਕ ਚਮਕ ਕੇ ਡਰਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ,
In the ten directions, the clouds cover the sky like a canopy; through the dark clouds, lightning flashes, and I am terrified.

ਸੇਜ ਇਕੇਲੀ ਨੀਦ ਨਹੁ ਨੈਨਹ ਪਿਰੁ ਪਰਦੇਸਿ ਸਿਧਾਇਓ ॥੧॥
(ਜਿਸ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਦਾ) ਪਤੀ ਪਰਦੇਸ ਵਿਚ ਗਿਆ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਉਸ ਦੀ) ਸੇਜ (ਪਤੀ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ) ਸੁੰਞੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, (ਉਸ ਦੀਆਂ) ਅੱਖਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਨੀਂਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦੀ
By bed is empty, and my eyes are sleepless; my Husband Lord has gone far away. ||1||

ਹੁਣਿ ਨਹੀ ਸੰਦੇਸਰੋ ਮਾਇਓ ॥
ਪਤੀ ਤੋਂ ਵਿਛੁੜ ਕੇ ਘਬਰਾਈ ਹੋਈ ਉਹ ਆਖਦੀ ਹੈ—) ਹੇ ਮਾਂ! ਹੁਣ ਤਾਂ (ਪਤੀ ਵਲੋਂ) ਕੋਈ ਸਨੇਹਾ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦਾ
Now, I receive no messages from Him, O mother!

ਏਕ ਕੋਸਰੋ ਸਿਧਿ ਕਰਤ ਲਾਲੁ ਤਬ ਚਤੁਰ ਪਾਤਰੋ ਆਇਓ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
(ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਜਦੋਂ ਕਦੇ ਘਰੋਂ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਪਤੀ) ਇਕ ਕੋਹ ਪੈਂਡਾ ਹੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਸੀ ਤਦੋਂ (ਉਸ ਦੀਆਂ) ਚਾਰ ਚਿੱਠੀਆਂ ਆ ਜਾਂਦੀਆਂ ਸਨ ।ਰਹਾਉ।
When my Beloved used to go even a mile away, He would send me four letters. ||Pause||

ਕਿਉ ਬਿਸਰੈ ਇਹੁ ਲਾਲੁ ਪਿਆਰੋ ਸਰਬ ਗੁਣਾ ਸੁਖਦਾਇਓ ॥
ਹੇ ਮਾਂ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਇਹ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਲਾਲ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ) ਕਿਵੇਂ ਭੁੱਲ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ? ਇਹ ਤਾਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈ, ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਖ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ
How could I forget this Dear Beloved of mine? He is the Giver of peace, and all virtues.

ਮੰਦਰਿ ਚਰਿ ਕੈ ਪੰਥੁ ਨਿਹਾਰਉ ਨੈਨ ਨੀਰਿ ਭਰਿ ਆਇਓ ॥੨॥
। ਮੈਂ ਭੀ (ਵਿਛੁੜੀ ਨਾਰ ਵਾਂਗ) ਕੋਠੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਚੜ੍ਹ ਕੇ (ਪਤੀ ਦਾ) ਰਾਹ ਤੱਕਦੀ ਹਾਂ, (ਮੇਰੀਆਂ ਭੀ) ਅੱਖਾਂ (ਵੈਰਾਗ-) ਨੀਰ ਨਾਲ ਭਰ ਆਈਆਂ ਹਨ ।੨।
Ascending to His Mansion, I gaze upon His path, and my eyes are filled with tears. ||2||

ਹਉ ਹਉ ਭੀਤਿ ਭਇਓ ਹੈ ਬੀਚੋ ਸੁਨਤ ਦੇਸਿ ਨਿਕਟਾਇਓ ॥
ਹੇ ਮਾਂ! ਮੈਂ ਸੁਣਦੀ ਤਾਂ ਇਹ ਹਾਂ, ਕਿ (ਉਹ ਪਤੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ) ਮੇਰੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ-ਦੇਸ ਵਿਚ ਮੇਰੇ ਨੇੜੇ ਹੀ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ,
The wall of egotism and pride separates us, but I can hear Him nearby.

ਭਾਂਭੀਰੀ ਕੇ ਪਾਤ ਪਰਦੋ ਬਿਨੁ ਪੇਖੇ ਦੂਰਾਇਓ ॥੩॥
(ਕਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ) ਭੰਭੀਰੀ ਦੇ ਖੰਭ ਵਾਂਗ (ਬੜਾ ਬਰੀਕ) ਪਰਦਾ (ਮੇਰੇ ਤੇ ਉਸ ਪਤੀ ਦੇ ਵਿਚਕਾਰ ਹੈ), ਪਰ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਕਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਉਹ ਕਿਤੇ ਦੂਰ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਜਾਪਦਾ ਹੈ ।੩।
There is a veil between us, like the wings of a butterfly; without being able to see Him, He seems so far away. ||3||

ਭਇਓ ਕਿਰਪਾਲੁ ਸਰਬ ਕੋ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਸਗਰੋ ਦੂਖੁ ਮਿਟਾਇਓ ॥
ਹੇ ਮਾਂ! ਜਿਸ ਸੁਭਾਗਣ ਉਤੇ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਦਇਆਵਾਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਉਹ ਸਾਰਾ (ਵਿਛੋੜੇ ਦਾ) ਦੁੱਖ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ

ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਉਮੈ ਭੀਤਿ ਗੁਰਿ ਖੋਈ ਤਉ ਦਇਆਰੁ ਬੀਠਲੋ ਪਾਇਓ ॥੪॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਆਖ—ਜਦੋਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ (ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਹਉਮੈ ਦੀ ਕੰਧ ਢਾਹ ਦਿੱਤੀ, ਤਦੋਂ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਮਾਇਆ-ਰਹਿਤ ਦਇਆਲ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ) ਨੂੰ (ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਹੀ) ਲੱਭ ਲਿਆ ।੪।
Says Nanak, when the Guru tore down the wall of egotism, then, I found my Merciful Lord and Master. ||4||

ਸਭੁ ਰਹਿਓ ਅੰਦੇਸਰੋ ਮਾਇਓ ॥
ਉਸ ਦਾ ਸਾਰਾ ਚਿੰਤਾ-ਫ਼ਿਕਰ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।ਰਹਾਉ ਦੂਜਾ।੧੧।੬੧।
All my fears have been dispelled, O mother!

ਜੋ ਚਾਹਤ ਸੋ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾਇਓ ॥
ਜਿਸ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਉਹ ਮਿਲਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ, ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਤਾਂਘ ਲੱਗ ਰਹੀ ਸੀ
Whoever I seek, the Guru leads me to find.

ਸਰਬ ਗੁਨਾ ਨਿਧਿ ਰਾਇਓ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ਦੂਜਾ ॥੧੧॥੬੧॥
ਹੇ ਮਾਂ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਹੈ
The Lord, our King, is the treasure of all virtue. ||Second Pause||11||61||
