Raag Sorath M.5
Guru Ji tells us our perception of things and people is based on our own circumstances/experience. If one is ill, he sees sickness everywhere and everyone seems to him to be afflicted by some sickness or other. A happy person will see happiness everywhere.
But, dukh and sukh are in lekha. One can veer between these two conditions endlessly.
Gurbani tells us we must rise above dukh and sukh and merge into Naam – a permanent sukh where one abides in anand – bliss.
One who has Naam within him, will see God, the source of eternal bliss everywhere and in everyone.
To the happy person, everyone seems happy while to the sick person, everyone seems sick; the Real Doer is the Lord Himself who causes us to act (to perceive things in a particular way). Union is His Hands. (The word used is “sanjogi” i.e. God is the One who decides to give you sanjog with dukh or sukh or with Himself).
“Sukhiye ko pekhiye sabh sukhiya rogi ke bhaane sabh rogi; Karan Karavanhaar Suami Aapan haath sanjogi.”
O my mind, one who has removed his doubt (delusion about others being happy or sad); in His Will, as one recognizes God everywhere, all his misconceptions (perceptions) are removed.
“Mann mere jinn apna bharam gavaata; Tis ke Bhaane koye na bhula jinn saglo Brahm pechataa.” (rahao).
One whose mind is soothed by the company of Saints (Shabad Guru), he sees peace (harmony) everywhere; (in contrast) one whose mind is afflicted by the disease of egotism, he wails out in births and deaths.
“Sant sang ja ka mann sheetal oh jaane saglee thandee; haumai rogh ja ka mann biaapat oh janam mareh billalatee.”
One whose eyes have been blessed by the ointment of wisdom and insight (by the Guru), everything becomes clear to him; (in contrast), in spiritual ignorance what he sees, perplexes him and he repeatedly wanders around in reincarnation.
“Gyan anjjan ja ki netri padiya ta ko sarab pargaasa; agyaan andheray sujjas nahi bhaur bhaur bhramaata.”
Please hear this Prayer of mine O Lord. Nanak pleads for this (eternal) happiness; may my mind become engrossed (in Your Praises) wherever the Saints sing Your Glories.
“Sunn benantee Suami apne Nanak eh sukh maange; jeh Kirtan Tera Sadhu gaavhe teh mera mann laage.”
