Raag Assa (Asa) Bhagat Kabir Ji.
Kabir Ji speaks of man’s short stay in this world. He compares a human to a lamp. As the life oil is within you, the spark of human life is ignited.
“Jab lagg tel divay mukh baati tab sujjay sabh koyee”
When the oil in the body is spent out the wick goes out and the body mansion becomes desolate.
“Tel jalle batti thehranee sunaa mandar hoyee”
You struggle so much for your family. Upon death, they will not want to keep your body for a while longer than necessary. Bhagat Ji says man engrossed in his worldly pursuits is quite mad
“Re bauray tohe ghari na rakhe koyee”
So, what should one do,?
“Tu Ram Naam jap soyee” (rahao).
Bhagat Ji poses questions about relationships we all hold dear. We overlook that these relationships are temporary and rupture upon death.
Who can say he has a mother, or a father, or claim to have a wife?. When the pitcher of the body bursts, (despite the claim to close relationships), no one cares for you at all. Everyone says “take him away; take him away.”
“Ka ki maee pita kaho ka ko kavan purakh ki joyee; ghat phutey kouu baat na puchey kadho kadho hoyee.”
The mother sits on the threshold and cries, while the brothers take away the coffin; the wife tears at her hair, and wails in sorrow; (despite the tumult), the swan soul goes meekly alone.
“Dehori bethee mata rovay khatiya le gaye bhayee; latt chitkaye tiriya rovay hans ikela jayee.”
Kabir says, listen O Saints. Let me tell you about the terrifying world ocean; O Lord I see this human suffers torture, and the messenger of death will not leave him alone.
“Kahat Kabir sunho re Santo bhey sagar ke tayee; eis bande sirr julam hote hai jamm nahi hatey Gosain.”
