Raag Assa (Asa) M.1.
Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s Slok from Asa Ki Vaar. Guru Ji says all are kurh – perishable. To attach yourselves to perishables will only bring you ruin.
Guru Ji says, all are false, perishable. The king, the subjects, and the entire world are false; false are the mansions, the skyscrapers and those who live in them.
“Kurh raja kurh parja kurh sabh sansaar; kurh mandap kurh marhi kurh bessanhar.”
Destructible is gold and silver, and false are those who wear them; perishable is the body, false are the clothes, even incomparable beauty is perishable.
“Kurh soena kurh rupaa kurh penenhaar; kurh kaiyaan kurh kaparh kurh roop apaar.”
False is the husband and the wife too. It is pointless to mourn their loss and waste away; perishable beings fall in love with other perishable ones, and in the process, forget the Lord; with whom should I develop friendship, since the entire world shall pass away?.
“Kurh kurhe neho lagga visreya Kartar; kis naal kichey dostee sabh jagh chalanhaar.”
Falsehood is sweet, falsehood is like a honey, and this perishability has drowned boat – loads; Nanak says this prayer, Lord, without You, all else is totally false (perishable).
“Kurh mitha kurh makhiyo kurh dobbey puur; Nanak vekhaney bentee Tudh bajh kurho kurh.”
