Raag Assa (Asa) M.1

A Sikh speaks adoringly about his Guru. He has been blessed with Darshan of God within himself, and he recalls the amazing way in which the Guru put him to Naam, removed his ego, and United him with God.

Bowing in reverence again and again, I fall at the Feet (Bani) of my Guru; through Him, I have been blessed to see the Lord within myself; reflecting upon Bani, I saw the All Pervading Lord within my heart, and contemplated upon Him.

“Niv niv paaye laggo Gur apne Aatam Raam nihariya; karat bichaar hirday Har reviya hirday dekh bichaariya.”

Recite the Lord’s Name, it will liberate you; it is through Guru’s Grace that the Jewel of the Lord is found, ignorance dispelled, and Divine enlightenment shines forth.

“Bolho Raam kare nistaara; Gur Parsad rattan Har laabhe mittay agyaan hoye ujiaara.” (rahao).

By mere recital the bonds are not broken, egotism and doubt do not depart from within; as one meets the Satguru (Shabad), egotism departs, and your blessed destiny gets written.

“Ravnee ravay bandhan nahi chutay vich haumai bharam na jayee; Satgur milhe ta haumai tuttay ta ko lekhay payee.”

The Name of the Lord is sweet and dear to His Saints. It is an Ocean of Peace and they enshrine it in their hearts; the Lord, the Life of the world, loves His Saints, blesses them with the Guru’s Wisdom, and emancipates them.

“Har Har Naam bhagat Pria Pritam Sukh Saagar urh dharey; Bhagat Vashall Jagjivan Dataa matt Gurmatt Har nistarey.”

One who fights against his mind, subdues it, finds God and his mind’s desires are quieted; Nanak says, as the Lord Grants His Grace, you intuitively and lovingly attach your consciousness with Him.

“Mann seyo joojh mareh Prabh paaye mansaa maane samaaye; Nanak kirpa kare Jagjivan sahaj bhaye liv laaye.”
