Raag Gauree (Gauri) Bhagat Kabir Ji.

The sakhi relating to this Shabad says Bhagat Kabir Ji used to go for walks. He used to pass by the house of a young man, a dandy, who was invariably seen fussing over his clothes, and spent so much time and effort on his external appearance.

He died fairly young. As Bhagat Ji went for his walks and passed by a graveyard, He saw a skull. With His antar dhristi, (deep Divine insight), Bhagat Ji saw it was the remains of the same young dapper dressing youth. Bhagat Ji then spoke this Shabad.

(The sakhi is given for purposes of illustration. The Shabad itself, applies to all and holds True always as it is Dhur Ki Bani).

That head which had a turban tied over it with meticulous care; upon that head, a crow now cleans its beak.

“Jeh sirr rach rach bhandat paag; so sirr chunch sawarey kaag.”

To what avail this pride over your wealth and body?; why not hold tight to the Lord’s Name instead?.

“Eis tann dhan ko kya garbeiyaa; Raam Naam kahe na dhrrihaeyaa.” (rahao).

Kabir says, listen my mind; such a fate may await you as well.

“Kahat Kabir sunho mann mere; eihee havaal hohenge tere.”
