Raag Gauree (Gauri) M.4
Guru Ramdas Ji tell us about various types of loves in the world. The word “preet” means love. In the context of this Shabad it means “to take joy in.”
The mother takes joy in seeing her child eat; a fish loves to bathe in waters; the Satguru takes joy in placing food (including Naam) in the mouth of Gursikhs.
“Mata preet karey put khaye; meenay preet bhaye jall naaye; Satgur preet gursikh mukh paaye.”
The rahao is a plea to be put in the company of the humble and holy ones; meeting them my sorrows will depart.
“Te Har jann Har melho ham pyare; jinn miliya dukh jaye hamarey.” (rahao).
As the cow shows affection to her strayed calf when she finds it; as the loving wife gets joy when her husband comes home; (just so), the Lord’s humble servant loves to sing Praises of the Lord.
“Jio mil bachrey gauu preet lagaave; kaaman preet ja pir ghar aave; Har jann preet ja Har jass gavhe.”
The sarang loves the rainwater falling in torrents; the king loves to see his wealth on display; the humble servant of the Formless Lord, loves to recite His Name.
“Sarang preet bassey jall dharaa; Narpat preet maya dekh pasaraa; Har jann preet jappey Nirankaara.”
Mortal man loves to gather wealth and property; the Gursikh loves to meet his Guru (Shabad) and be embraced by Him; servant Nanak loves to kiss the feet of the holy (i.e. to sit in humility in Sadhsanggat).
“Nar pranee preet maya dhan khatey; Gursikh preet Gur milay galatey; jann Nanak preet Sadh pagg chatey.”
