Raag Majh – Bara Maha Majh M.5.

Bara Maha Bani traces the avastha of the jeev isteri in the backdrop of the changing seasons every month.

The month of Asaarh for example is a hot month. Guru Ji uses the imagery of external scorching heat to describe the heat of trishna within the jeev isteri.

The Shabad is about the month of Poh. Poh is the 10th month of the Indian calendar and is fairly cold. Drawing on that imagery, Guru Ji says in Poh, cold chills do not affect the jeev isteri who has the warm embrace of God’s Love.

“Poh tukhar na viaapeye kanth miliya Har Nah” (tukhar means snow)

For such jeev isteris, their minds have been pierced by His Lotus Feet (Bani), and they are attuned to His Darshan.

“Man bediya Charnabind Darshan lagrha Saho”

Their focus (tek) is on the Lord and they find His sewa profitable.

“Ote Gobind Gopal Rae sewa Suami laho”

Maya does not stain them as they sing the Lord’s Praises by joining the Saints (Guru).

“Bikhiya poh na sahayee mil Sadhu gun gaho”

The jeev isteri is connected with her Origins and absorbed in true love for God.

“Jeh te upjee teh mili sachi preet smaho”

As the Lord holds your hands you will never be separated again.

“Kar geh linni Parbrahm bahurh na vicheriaho”

I am grateful thousands of times to the Unapproachable Unfathomable Friend and Lord.

“Baar jaoo lak beriyan Har Sajjam Aggam Agaaho”

Nanak is at Your Door; Please preserve my honor.

“Saram peyee Narainay Nanak Dar peeiyah”

The month of Poh is beautiful and all comforts come to one to whom the Carefree Lord is Merciful.

“Poh sohunda sarab sukh jis bakshe Veparvah.”

Bhai Ji added on December 14, 2024:

In the Indian calendar, Poh is the 10th month.
Poh brings in the cold, wintry season. All wear warm clothes and try to be near fire get some heat.
That however is the external season.

For those who are blessed with the warm embrace internally by their Husband Lord (through Naam) do not feel any biting cold (tukhar).

“Pokh tukhar na viaapeye kanth miliya Har Nah.”

Such blessed ones have their mind transfixed upon the Lord’s Lotus Feet (Gurbani, Shabad) and are focused upon getting His Darshan.

“Mann bediya Charnabind Darshan lagra Saho.”

Their Ote (Tek, Bharosa) is only upon the Lord King whose service brings true spiritual profit.

“Ote Govind Gopal Rae sewa Suami lah.”

They cannot be enticed by the poison of worldliness and they join holy company to Sing His Praises.

“Bikhiya poh na sakaieyi mil Sadhu Gunn Gah.”

Their jeev isteris (soul) is blended with their Divine Origin and they are absorbed in True Love.

“Jeh teh upji teh mili Sach Preet samaah.”

Those whose hands are Grasped by the Supreme Lord do not suffer separation ever again.

“Kar geh linni Parbrahm bahur na vishriah.”

They are beholden a hundred thousand times to their Friend, the Unfathomable, Unreachable Lord.

“Baar jao lakh beriya Har Sajjan Aggam Agaah.”

Nanak says those who sit at His Door receive honor from Him.

“Saram bheyi Naraine Nanak Dar parhian.”

Poh is beautiful and all comforts come to the one whom the Carefree Lord has forgiven.

“Poh suhanda sarab sukh jis bakshe Veparvah.”
