Raag Gauree (Gauri) M.1.
A Sikh is in despair. He complains to the Guru. These five (kaam krodh lobh moh ahankaar) are five in number whilst I am alone. How can I ever protect myself against these. They plunder me daily and beat me. To whom can I complain?
“Avar panch ham ek janna kio rakho ghar baar manaa; marey lutey nit nit kis aage kari pukaar janaa”
The Guru replies in the rahao. Recite the Name of the Supreme Lord; (you worry about these five,? – if you do not recite His Name), in the world hereafter you will have to face the cruel army of death.
“Sri Raam Nama uchar manaa; agey jamm dall bikham ghanaa”(rahao).
Guruj Ji further advises.
The Lord created the temple of the body with nine doors, and the bride soul sits within. She indulges in sweet play daily, while the five demons plunder her.
“Usaarh marholi rakhe duara bhitar baithi sa dhanaa; amrit kel kare nit kaaman avar luten so panch janaa”
When the temple (body) is demolished and the contents looted, the soul bride left all alone is captured. She is struck with the staff of death, shackles are placed on her neck while the five flee.
“Dhahe marholi luteya dehora sa dhan pakdi ek janaa; jamm danda gall sangal padeya bhag gaye se panch janaa”
She had always yearned for gold and silver while her friends (the senses) yearned for luxuries: Nanak says as she committed sins for their sake she shall be gagged and dragged to the city of the dead.
“Kaaman lorhe soena rupa mitar lorhen sokha dataa; Nanak paap kare tin kaaran jasi jamm pur bandhataa”
