Raag Todee M.5
A Sikh pleads for the Gift of Naam. Realisation has set in, that nothing else besides Naam will go with him as he goes to the hereafter.
I beg for the Gift of Your Name, my Lord and Master; nothing else shall go along with me. Give me Your Grace to sing Your Glorious Praises.
“Maango daan Thakur Naam; avar kach mere sang na challey miley Kirpa gunn gaam.” (rahao).
Power, wealth, various pleasures and revelments, are all like the passing shade of a tree; running and groping for wealth in all directions, all such pursuit is useless.
“Raaj maal anek bhog rass sagal tarvar ki shaam; dhaee dhaee baho bidh ko dhaave sagall nirarth kaam.”
Besides the Lord of the Universe, everything you desire or see is transitory; Nanak says, I beg for the dust of the feet of Saints, so I may find peace and tranquility.
“Bin Govind avar je chaho dissay sagall baat hi khaam; kaho Nanak Sant rein maango mero mann paavhe bisraam.”
