Raag Jaijawanti/Jaijawantee

Raag Jaijawanti is the final (31st) Raag in SGGS Ji. It was included by Guru Gobind Singh Ji. The Raag is very short and has 4 Shabads by Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji.

This is the 3rd Shabad of Raag Jaijawanti.

Guru Ji poses a question. O mortal, what will be your condition? In this world you have made no effort to listen to the Lord’s Name. You are so engrossed in the poison of maya, and have never turned your mind away from sinful ways.

“Re mann kaun gatt hoye hai teri; eih jag me Raam Naam so tao nahi suniyo kaan; bikhiyan seyo att lobhan matt nahin feri.”  (Rahao).

Although you were blessed with a human life, you did not remember the Lord, even for an instant; you are a slave to pleasures of women, and now your feet are tied in bondage.

“Manas ko janam leen simran neh nimakh keen; dara sukh bheyo deen pagho peri beri.”

Nanak says in utter humility, that the vast expanse of this world is just a dream; why do you not meditate on the Lord? (Murari – who destroys ego). Maya is His slave.

“Nanak jann kahe pukaar supne jio jag pasaar; simrat neh kyo Murar maya ja ki cheri.”
