SGGS Angg 1070-1071.

Maru Solhe M.4.

Solhe – Shabads of 16 padas or thereabouts are found only in Raag Maru.

Maru Raag and Kedara Raag are considered “martial raags.” The beats of these raags are lengthy and have a tone of an army marching to battle.

Needless to say, the battle is internal. And, it is not a short battle. It takes tons of patience, lots of Naam, prema bhagti, Sadhsanggat, and of course Gur Parsad before the Sikh sees his journey coming to fruition.
In Guru Ji’s Words,
“Safal safal bheyi safal jatra.” (Ang 686).

You need strong power of endurance. There will be humiliation and honor. You must rise above that.
“Maan abhimaan mundhe so sewak nahi.”  (Ang 51).
Unlike the rest of the world, the Sikh rises above considerations of good and bad and acts only in accordance with His Hukam.
“Dokrit sokrit sansar saglaana; dohu te rehat Bhagat hai koi virla jaana” (Ang 51).

In the war setting of Raag Maru, the Canvas is Truly Large as the Gurus speak of the True Infinite, Unconquerable Warrior, God Himself.

In this Solha, the initial padas tell us about God. He is “Har Aggam Agochar Sada Abhinasi,” and He is in all spaces and hearts.
“Sarbhe rev rehiya ghat vaasi.”
The Guru declares that Sikhs should only worship and serve this One Bountiful Lord.
“Tis bin avar na koyi Dataa Har tisse srevho praani he.”

The rest of the Solha is full of His Almighty Nature.
At pada 13, the Solha takes a turn. The Sikh in the form of a jeev isteri throws herself at the Mercy of the Glorious Lord and says, some speak with ego; some speak of the power and authority of maya.”

“Kis hi jor ahangkar bolan ka; kis hi kor dibaan maya ka.”

I am a wretched (nimaani) one, Lord, I have no other Support besides You, please save me O Creator Lord.

“Mai Har bin tek dhar avar na kaayi Tu Karte raakh mai nimaani he.”
