Raag Ramkali M.5
A Sikh might be all powerful and have great knowledge. Yet, when he appears before the Satguru, he must acknowledge all his faults, his helplessness, and say he is ignorant.
In this Shabad, the Sikh appears before the Satguru, and says,
“I know nothing, nor have I achieved anything; I have no Knowledge, intelligence or spiritual wisdom.
“Kichu kaaj na kiyo jaan; suratt matt nahi kich gyan.”
I lay no claim to having recited Your Name, nor have I done any meditation, nor do I have humility or righteousness. I know nothing about good actions/conduct.
“Jaap taap seal nahi dharam; kichu na jaano kaisa karam.”
The central refrain affirms the faith of the Sikh – You are my Beloved God and Master. Lord there is none other besides You. Full of mistakes and astray as I am, I still belong only to You, God.
“Thakur Pritam Prabh mere; Tujh bin dujja avar na koyi bhulle chukhe Prabh Tere.” (Rahao).
I have no wealth, nor intelligence, nor can I show off any occult powers; I dwell in the body village of evil and sickness.
“Ridh na budh na sidh pargaas; bikhe biaad ke gaav meh baas.”
You, O Lord, are the Life Force and the One Creator God; Your Name is the Support of my mind.
“Karanhaar mere Prabh Ek; Naam Tere ki mann meh Tek.”
The only consolation my mind gets is when I repeatedly listen to Your Naam; Your Naam Destroys all sins.
“Sun Sun jiwho mann eh bisraam; paap khandan Prabh Tero Naam.”
You are Infinite and Provide for countless beings; only those whom You Enlighten Know about You.
“Tu agaanath jiaa ka Dataa; jisse janaavhe tin Tu jaata.”
Whoever has been created, rests his hopes upon You; all worship and adore You, Lord, Treasure of all Excellences.
“Jo upaaiyo tis Teri aas; saggal aradhe Prabh Guntaas.”
Nanak, Your slave is forever indebted to You; my Infinite Master and Lord, is always Merciful.
“Nanak daas Tere Kurbaan; Beantt Sahib mera Mehervaan.”
